Urban canal house

This canal house is located at Coolhaven in Rotterdam. Designed for two brothers, this house reflects their search for a contemporary design that accommodates both their living and working lives. For their businesses, it’s advantageous if the building stands out slightly, making it easy to find. The design aims to represent their personal story with two separate volumes connected at the back.

As the brothers actively contribute to the community in their free time, they have arranged with the neighboring community center for the garage doors to be used as canvases for local youth to paint.

Great importance was placed on having a view of the canal from the living room. By giving the living area an open layout, this view remains accessible from other spaces as well.
