Modern Hilltop House with Stunning Views and Abundant Natural Light

eco-friendly living / small home / countryside life / Hungary

At the transition from the steep rock to a gentle grassy hill lies a small patch of flat ground. Ideal, as it provides a perfect spot for a house. This way, the house benefits from the coolness of the rock face while enjoying the view from the hillside.

To draw this view even more into the living room, the house was given a slight curve. This enhances the sense of openness on the hill side while also creating a feeling of shelter on the rock side. The client, a furniture maker, saw crafting the interior to fit as a playful challenge. The result is a distinctive home full of characteristic elements.

A large glass facade facing south is generally something you’d want to avoid in Hungary. But in this case, it is also the direction of the beautiful view. Several low-tech solutions now ensure it becomes an asset. The roof extends on all sides to shield the outer wall from the high sun. Additionally, the glass facade is recessed by one and a half meters. This not only protects it from the high midday sun, but, with the help of the side walls, also from the low morning and evening sun.

The client is also a nature lover and chose to live small to allow space for the natural recovery of the hill. The realization of the house is therefore not the end of the story, but the beginning of the next challenge!
