The dementia village Hogeweyk in the Netherlands demonstrates that humane dementia care is possible. Since its inception, it has served as an inspiration for those seeking a more human-centered approach to dementia care.
This includes the Ministry of Social Affairs in Hungary. For this reason, the “Idősek EurópaI Háza Alapítvány” has commissioned WeCare Architecture to explore how this model can be adapted to the Hungarian context.
By examining three aspects of life in the Hogeweyk dementia village – as a care-providing, hospitable, and living environment – a comparison is made with Hungarian institutions.
The report also considers the practical, cultural, and financial differences between care providers in Hungary and Hogeweyk. Finally, opportunities and challenges for establishing a dementia village in Hungary are identified.
